Connecting neighbors to create a sustainable future

People have a basic need for both privacy and connection.

Neighborhoods are places where both needs can be fulfilled. In the refuge of our homes, patios, and yards we can cultivate a sense of privacy that enables experiences of solitude, intimacy and restoration. In these spaces and the neighborhood beyond, we can also cultivate meaningful connection with our neighbors that enable us to experience support, community, and collective purpose.

We also have a basic need to live in harmony with the environment we inhabit, in order to ensure the viability of future generations. Neighborhoods are also places where we can begin to fulfill this essential need. In our neighborhoods we can practice the wise use of natural resources, promote healthy lifestyles, and create and maintain built environments that are healthy for both people and the planet.

Creating a sustainable future is the most important work of our time.

Neighborhoods are supportive places from which we can advance this work. Connecting neighbors is an essential step in this process. Join IISN in the work of connecting neighbors and creating a sustainable future.
