Intentionally Sustainable Neighborhoods

We are committed to advancing our mission by:

Creating neighborhood partnerships with neighborhoods that have a core group of committed volunteers, an expressed desire to create and implement a vision of neighborhood sustainability, and an expressed desire to form a collaborative partnership with IISN.

Neighborhoods are geographically-based areas where people form a sense of connection and community; places where people live, work and play. Neighborhoods are also places where positive social change can be stimulated; where neighbors can be energized, inspired, and motivated by each other to achieve a collective purpose. In turn, the success of neighborhoods can lead to healthy connections between neighborhoods and with the greater community. In addition, we believe that intention is a seed for powerful change. Therefore, IISN chooses to partner with neighborhoods that express a desire and willingness to work together to intentionally achieve greater measures of sustainability.

Our initial work is focused on developing, piloting and assessing a series of partnerships and programs in the Holiday neighborhood, located in Boulder, Colorado. We chose Holiday for three reasons:

  • First, we chose to locate our office in the Holiday neighborhood where there is access to many people and organizations whose visions for a sustainable future are similar to ours.
  • Second, as we engaged in exploratory conversations in Holiday, we were encouraged by many others to pilot our programs in the neighborhood.
  • Third, the Holiday neighborhood was designed with a “sense of environmental responsibility and health.” This intentional theme of sustainability continues to be present in Holiday and therefore represents fertile ground for cultivating partnerships and piloting programs.

In short, Holiday seemed like a great place to start our work. To learn more about the Holiday neighborhood visit Holiday Neighborhood Master Assoc and Boulder Housing Partners.

Our future work will build on the successes and lessons learned in Holiday and we will serve additional neighborhoods in Boulder, Colorado, and in due time, neighborhoods beyond Boulder.
We recognize that neighborhoods take different forms, including:

  • Newly built neighborhoods
  • Existing neighborhoods that are being physically redeveloped
  • Existing neighborhoods that are being revitalized (but not physically redeveloped)

IISN is interested in exploring partnerships with any of these types of neighborhoods.
If you are interested in exploring a neighborhood partnership with IISN or know someone who might be interested, we would like to hear from you. Please contact us and let us know about you and your neighborhood.
