Connecting Neighbors to Create a Sustainable Present and Future
Boulder, Colorado, May 15, 2008. IISN, in partnership with the Holiday Neighborhood Home Owner Association, is hosting a Futures Festival for Neighborhood Sustainability. Neighborhood residents and community organizations will partner to present nearly 20 exhibits designed to engage residents in creating a vision for the future sustainability of the neighborhood.
The festival will be held in Holiday Park at 15th and Yaupon in north Boulder on Saturday, May 17 from 10:00 a.m.-2:30 p.m. The event includes family and kid-friendly exhibits, music, games and picnicking. Complete event information and a schedule can be viewed at http://www.iisn.org/events/events-list.
Following the event, IISN will continue to work in partnership with the neighborhood and surrounding areas, to create a cohesive vision and action plan for neighborhood sustainability based on the ideas shared at the Futures Festival. IISN will then work in collaboration with the neighborhood to implement and assess this action plan so that the overall process can be evaluated and then effectively replicated in other neighborhoods.
“The Holiday Neighborhood is already a wonderful place to live and work. I’m looking forward to the boost the Futures Festival will give us,” says Aaron Brockett, Holiday resident, Holiday Master HOA President and IISN Board Member.
“The Holiday Neighborhood residents have taken over where the planners and developers for Holiday left off. The current residents, through such events as the Futures Festival, have made the neighborhood alive and created real connections between the people living there. I think the Futures Festival will bring the neighborhood together and take it to the next level of cohesiveness and real community,” says Cindy Brown, Development Director for Boulder Housing Partners who served as the Master Developer for the Holiday neighborhood.
“It has been incredibly fun to connect with residents of Holiday and the surrounding areas and to see the growing excitement for this event and the desire to live more sustainably,” says Tere Mann, IISN Operations and Event Coordinator.
